alternative energy

Even when alternative energy sources become much more widespread and viable, we will still use a lot of oil.

In the future as new discoveries and technologies become available, there will be more money for alternatives. This will cause a snowball effect and there may be a quick move away from oil. But "quick" is a relative word. To you and me quick could mean a day, a week or perhaps a year depending on the context of the subject.

In the energy industry quick is fifty to sixty years. Therefore, oil is something that people will be consuming in massive quantities for most of this century at least.
